Answers to common questions about SotDB.gg, how we source information, and how we handle privacy.
Cookies and Privacy
SotDB.gg is run by one person as a fan project. This section lists everything the site stores about you, why, and how to remove it. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and we never sell or share personal information.
Cookies
- csrftoken — protects forms from cross-site request forgeryessential
- sessionid — keeps you logged in. For visitors who are not logged in it holds at most two short-lived things: the Twitch Drops reminder choice you made before signing up, applied to your account when you log in, and a one-time code while a streamer connects the Twitch botessential
Browser storage (stays on your device)
A few preferences live in your browser’s localStorage and are never sent to us: the dismissed cookie banner, your Cards/Details choice on category pages, the time of your last profile import, and, for streamers, the Drops overlay settings. Clearing site data in your browser removes them.
Requests to other services
- Google Fonts and cdnjs (Font Awesome) serve the site’s typefaces and icons. Their servers see your IP address like any web request.
- Ko-fi serves its small logo in the header; donations happen on ko-fi.com under its own terms.
- YouTube guide videos load only when you open one, in privacy-enhanced (no-cookie) mode.
- Twitch is only linked to. The “live” bar is set by our own server checking Twitch; your browser does not contact Twitch until you click.
Your account and profile imports
An account stores your username, email address and a hashed password. If you import your profile, we keep your gamertag, currency totals and commendation progress so the site can show what you have and have not unlocked. The raw text you paste is kept for 30 days (the newest three imports are kept longer for comparisons) and then deleted automatically. You can delete your whole account from your profile page; that removes everything below as well.
Twitch Drops email reminders
Opt-in only. We store the choice and the time you made it, and send an email to your account address when a Sea of Thieves Twitch Drops campaign is announced. Turn it off any time from your profile; no further emails are sent.
Discord linking and Guild Finder
Linking Discord stores only your Discord user ID so the bot can recognise you; disconnect it from your profile. A guild listing or a player listing is public by design. When you apply to a guild, the owner sees your SoTDB username and your gamertag is revealed to them only after they accept. Application events are also written to a staff-only audit channel in our Discord for moderation. Remove your listing or withdraw an application from the Guild Finder pages.
sot_db Twitch chat bot
When someone uses !sotdb or the “Search SoTDB” channel points reward in a Twitch chat, we log the channel, the Twitch username that asked, the query and the time. This log enforces the bot’s rate limits and gives us usage statistics; it is not shown publicly and entries are deleted after 90 days. Streamers who add the bot through this site grant it permission to manage one channel points reward; the resulting Twitch tokens are stored encrypted and deleted when you click “Remove from my channel”. Streamers who added it with !sotdb join can type !sotdb leave to remove it. Viewers who would rather not appear in the log can simply not use the command.
Pirate Flex pages
Your Pirate Flex is private by default. If you choose “Publish my flex page”, a page at an unguessable link shows your gamertag, the shop value of your owned cosmetics, the per-type breakdown and your most valuable pieces, and you appear on the public leaderboard. Nothing else from your profile is shown. “Make private” takes the page and the leaderboard entry down immediately.
Cosmetic showcase submissions
Screenshots you submit are reviewed by staff before they appear. You choose how you are credited: gamertag, SoTDB username or anonymous.
Feedback
Feedback you submit via the Feedback button is relayed to our Discord via a webhook. The message you type and basic metadata (like your browser user agent) are included to help us triage issues.
